Moisture indicatiors

The test strips are a practical, inexpensive and safe method of checking moisture levels. They can be used to read the exact moisture level inside the packaging using a colour indicator. Depending on the moisture level, the colour on the test strip changes from ‘dry’ to ‘moist’.

PROPERTIES

Since 2004, cobalt has been listed as a carcinogenic substance in EU environmental regulations. Within the EU, only test strips that comply with the regulations may be used. The test strip is divided into several tone value points. The colour changes depending on the moisture level and the exact moisture level can be read off in %. The previous test strips (colour change from blue to red) are prohibited.

How does silica gel work as a desiccant?

Silica gel consists of porous silicon dioxide that absorbs moisture from the ambient air. It can bind up to 40 % of its own weight in water and is available in various grain sizes and with a colour indicator.

Are the desiccants reusable?
Silica gel, for example, can be regenerated by heating at 100-120 °C and reused. Bentonite and container desiccants, on the other hand, are designed for single use.
How long do desiccants last?
The shelf life depends on the packaging and the storage conditions. In airtight containers, desiccants remain effective for several years.
